The fire department incurred significant flood damage from a torrential rain event. Their apparatus bays faired well since they were all concrete block walls, but their support spaces were not that fortunate. Our team was brought in not only to repair the spaces but to make them more resilient to future flooding.
Working with the department leadership we re-planned the layout to be more functional. We then eliminated all materials such as gypsum board and wood framing that would absorb moisture and be susceptible to damage. Concrete blocks with a tile finish were utilized for the walls and bar front. The floor was coated with an epoxy finish and emblazoned with the department’s shield.
“I have been telling people that marvel at the work in the back room that this is a rare “low bid” success story. We could not be happier. You and your team, especially Chris, have been incredible. From Scott down to Bob (the contractors), who performed most of the work, everyone was just wonderful and the attention to detail was great.”
Gregg Cariddi, Chief of Department River Edge Volunteer Fire Department

The ceremonial groundbreaking for the new firehouse marked the culmination of years of effort to bring the project to fruition. Designed with contemporary firehouses in mind, the project will have three zones: live/work, response readiness, and garage bays. The purpose of these zones is to create an efficient layout and clean environment. Visually, the building textures and materials were chosen to reflect the aesthetic of local farm and municipal buildings.
