Zichron Mordechai Synagogue
Teaneck, New Jersey

This small neighborhood synagogue was designed for a congregation of 100 persons and is located on the fringe of a residential neighborhood.

The worship space occupies the upper floor, with separate entrances for men and women.
The gathering space is at grade level and is serviced by restrooms, a storage room and a small kitchen. The study space is located below grade and conveniently doubles as a play area for children.

Brick, stucco and painted wood windows were selected in order to accommodate local mandates of continuity with the neighborhood. A sloped, inverted roof was selected for an abundance of natural light and views of an old tree, while maintaining privacy from the street.
