Tenafly Police Headquarters
Tenafly, New Jersey
The original Tenafly Police Department had not been updated since the 1960's. They had been struggling for years to operate within the overcrowded facility that also had numerous code compliance and safety issues.

Our architects worked closely with the Police Chief and Captains' to create a layout that was code compliant and increased the efficiency of the staff. The plan included a 10,000 square foot addition and a renovation of about 5,000 square feet to the exiting 47-year-old building.

The new station has the Administration area in the front of the building (Chief's Office, Secretary, Captains'), Group areas (Training Room, Conference Room) in the center of the building, and Staff spaces located in the rear (Offices, Lunch Room, Locker Rooms, Weapons/Ammo).
The safety of the police staff and public improved since the flow of how a prisoner is handled and properly contained in the new facility; from the police car, to processing, to holding. State-of-the-art access and HD video surveillance technology with electronic card readers were installed which provides multiple levels of access based on rank.

Additionally, one of the firms goals was to implement as many passive and active green design solutions as possible. Therefore to reduce the new building's carbon footprint, energy saving measures were installed — higher wall, roof, window, HVAC, plumbing, and lighting products were selected — all with ratings above the minimum required by the latest energy code.

"Their expertise and experience combined with outstanding communication skills and patience made the entire experience a pleasant one, from start to finish."
